By mid March, I find myself counting the days until I can be surrounded by the beauty of the cut flower garden again. There’s nothing like the thrill of seeing a tiny seed germinate or the first bloom of my butterfly ranunculus, waiting for the sun to bring them to life.
If there’s one flower I am completely obsessed with, it’s ranunculus. Every year, I promise myself that I will give growing them from corms another try. Their delicate, ruffled petals and dreamy colors make them an absolute favorite for wedding bouquets—but growing them? That’s a whole different story.
Ranunculus start from little corms, which honestly look like tiny octopuses, and they can be so tricky to get just right. They need the perfect cool temperatures, just enough moisture but not too much!, and a whole lot of patience. I admire growers who seem to have the magic touch, and next year, I am determined to give it another shot!
But every year, I find myself buying them already grown from my favorite nursery -Sam Bridge Nursery & Greenhouses—because let’s be honest, I just need their beauty in my life, one way or another!
Ranunculus will always have a place in my floral designs. Because no matter what, their beauty is worth the effort.
My favorite varieties are "La belle series" with the follwoing colors- salmon, champagne, orange, and pastel mix.
